Southampton put on a clinical display at St Mary’s Stadium on September 12, dismantling Bristol City 4-1 in an EFL Championship fixture. Canadian international Cyle Larin grabbed a brace, and two late goals from Kuryu Matsuki and Finn Azaz completed the scoring.

Larin sets the tone early

Larin opened the scoring in the 38th minute, then doubled his tally in the 61st minute, putting the home side in a commanding 2-0 position. Bristol City pulled one back through Lorent Tolaj in the 66th minute. Kuryu Matsuki added a third in the 82nd minute, and Finn Azaz added a fourth in the 85th.

Manager Tonda Eckert has publicly described Larin as one of the best strikers in the Championship. Larin’s permanent move to Southampton followed his appearances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and he has already scored multiple goals in limited appearances this season.

Southampton’s promotion push takes shape

This victory extends Southampton’s unbeaten home record at St Mary’s. The 2026/27 Championship campaign represents Southampton’s bid for an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation last season.
