Tottenham Hotspur just became the first Premier League club to have a player on the winning side of three consecutive FIFA World Cups.
Hugo Lloris captained France to glory in 2018. Cristian Romero lifted the trophy with Argentina in 2022. And now, with the 2026 tournament wrapping up, at least one Spurs player has again ended up on the winning side. Three tournaments, three champions, one North London club threading the needle each time.
How the streak actually happened
The 2018 piece is the most straightforward. Lloris was France’s captain and starting goalkeeper when Les Bleus beat Croatia 4-2 in the Moscow final. He was a Tottenham player through and through at that point, having joined the club in 2012.
Four years later, Romero was part of an Argentina squad that won in Qatar via a penalty shootout victory over France. Romero, Tottenham’s combative center-back, had moved to Spurs initially on loan in 2021 before making it permanent.
The 2026 edition completes the hat trick. Tottenham’s current squad features Romero (Argentina), Pedro Porro (Spain), and Djed Spence (England), all of whom represented nations considered serious contenders heading into the tournament. At least one of them has now collected a winner’s medal, cementing the club’s place in a bit of trivia that no other Premier League side can claim.
The Kraken deal and SPURS fan token
In July 2024, Tottenham announced Kraken as its Official Crypto and Web3 Partner. The exchange’s branding now appears on the club’s sleeves.
Then there’s the SPURS fan token, launched in 2023 on the Chiliz network through the Socios.com platform. Tottenham created a digital token that lets fans vote in polls, access exclusive content, and generally feel more connected to the club. Approximately 12.7 million SPURS tokens are in circulation as of mid-2026.
