Solana token hits 8-month high, surpassing $109 against Bitcoin

1 hour ago 16

Solana crossed $109 on August 27, 2026, touching intraday highs between $109.31 and $109.64. That puts SOL at its strongest price point since late January 2026, a stretch of roughly eight months during which the token spent considerable time in Bitcoin’s shadow.

The timing matters. Bitcoin was testing levels near $80,000 during the same window, which would ordinarily pull capital toward the market’s anchor asset. Instead, traders rotated the other direction.

SOL versus BTC: the scoreboard

The SOL/BTC trading pair climbed approximately 45% over the 30 days leading up to the August 27 print.

Solana’s current market cap sits at roughly $60 billion. The token’s record peak of around $293, set in January 2025, remains a distant benchmark, giving traders a wide corridor to work with before anyone starts talking about price discovery.

Short sellers felt the squeeze acutely. On the day of the surge, short liquidations in SOL exceeded $16 million, meaning traders betting against the token got caught and forced to buy their positions back, which in turn added more upward pressure.

The network is doing real work

Solana recorded more than 4.2 billion transactions in a single week during this period.

Tokenized real-world assets on Solana approached $4 billion. RWAs are traditional financial instruments like Treasury bills, private credit, or real estate funds that have been represented as tokens on a blockchain.

Solana-linked exchange-traded funds reported inflows in the range of $65 million to $95 million in recent weeks, with the Bitwise BSOL staking ETF posting multi-month record flows.

What the market is telling you

The Fear and Greed Index shifted to Extreme Greed territory alongside the SOL surge. That reading cuts two ways. On one hand, it confirms that the broader market mood is supportive of risk-taking. On the other hand, Extreme Greed has historically preceded periods of sharp pullbacks.

Technical analysts watching SOL flagged overbought conditions in the indicators, while simultaneously pointing to potential targets above $120 if momentum holds.
